Unless you are staying in one of the hotels in the city such as hotel near Asok, you might have encountered the parking problem in Bangkok. For this reason, the Prime Minister has mandated that underground parking proposals should be rushed. The information was released by a source from the Government House. Prayut Chan-o-cha, the prime minister, said that the project of additional parking space will attract investors from domestic and international market.

The source said that the prime minister made the request upon attending a cabinet meeting along with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration or BMA together with the Interior Ministry. The prime minister said that he is waiting for reports regarding the underground parking plan in order to see its progress. They are also hoping that a private sector will join with the project. The prime minister also said that it must be accomplished on or before a month has passed which is the deadline.

The source said that SomkidJatusripitak, the deputy prime minister, was appointed to handle the project to make sure that collaboration is happening from different agencies with the Board of Investment to secure the investment for the construction of the parking spaces. The major reason for building a additional parking space is to reduce the traffic, more importantly in crowded places like educational institutions, shopping malls, government offices and train stations.

Beginning on April of 2017, the Office of Transport together with the Traffic Policy and Planning has already been making a master plan to manage the traffic system all over Bangkok. The project’s time frame is expected to be between 2017 and 2029. Once the master plan is done, it will be sent to the Transport Ministry for approval.

It is the goal of the prime minister to gather the cooperation of private sectors to help build a parking building with 10 storeys, manage it and handle rent collection. Areas around the mass transit system should have more parking spaces while hotels such as hotel near Asok are not of the main concern because these establishments already come with enough parking spaces for their guests.
